Kottayam

Acclaimed as the land of letters, latex and lakes, Kottayam has the distinction of being the first fully-literate municipal headland in India . This land also has the first English educational center in South India, as well as the Malayalam first printing press established by Benjamin Bailey, a Christian missionary, in AD 1820. Today, it is the precursor of the edition with about 80 percent of the books published in the State coming from the region.
The nerve center of the Kerala press industry , a total of five newspapers is published from here. Panoramic backwater sections, lush rice paddies, mountains and extensive rubber plantations characterize this picturesque landscape that attracts hordes of tourists. The majestic Vembanad Lake and breathtaking Kumarakom backwaters are its main attractions.
