Ahar – The Royal Cenotaphs

Located about 2 kilometers to the east of Udaipur, Ahar is an impressive group of cenotaphs from the Maharanas of Mewar. There are about nineteen Maharana Cenotaphs that were cremated here. The most striking cenotaph is that of Amar Singh Maharana who reigned from 1597 to 1620. Located nearby is the Ahar Museum, it contains rare earthenware ceramics, some sculptures and other archaeological finds. Some of the pieces date back to 1700 BC. The figure of the metallic tenth century Buddha is a special attraction.
