Although there are many temples, caves and stupas built in Ladakh by Rinchen Zangpo, famously called translator, Alchi Choskor is the largest and the most famous of them all. Alchi is located at a distance of 67 kms west of Leh , founded by Rinchen Zangpo, in the year 1000. The main image is that of Vairocana. The five families of Buddha, along with their corresponding deities are images worth seeing. The paintings are not like the Tibetan style but are in accordance with the Indian tradition . To build these temples, Rinchen Zangpo, the translator is said to have several biographers have brought with them from Kashmir .
