Kasaragod , the northernmost district of Kerala is famous for being the land of gods, forts, rivers, mountains and beautiful beaches. The imposing fortress in Bekal is one of Kerala‘s largest and best preserved forts. The beautiful stretch of shallow beach near Fort Bekal known as Fort Beach has been developed as an exotic place by the Bekal Resorts Development Corporation (BRDC).
Embellishment of the site includes the installation of two Ityam sculptures created with laterite on the beach and a shed whose walls are adorned with murals created by Nilambur artisans . Apart from these a rock garden in the parking area has been developed in laterite rocks of various sizes have been used. Under the scheme of social forestry, the trees have been planted in the beach area.
