Govind Ji ka Temple

A vital part of the City Palace complex, this Krishna temple has long been revered by the ancient royal family. Sawai Jai Singh installed the image of Govind Devji (an incarnation of Lord Krishna) after being brought back from Vrindavan. Located in the sanctuary of the spireless temple, the deity patron of the royal family is worshiped by the majority of Hindus in the areas of the city and its surroundings.

The image was unveiled seven times a day for ‘Aarties’ and Bhogs are mostly from the candies offered in silverware. Radha-Krishna idols dress in different styles each time for the ‘Aarti’ procession where thousands of devotees or ‘Bhakts’ gather around the courtyard for Darshan (a glance connecting them with the divine).
