Take a drive from Kozhikode to Wayanad , and once you climb up the serpentine NH 212, you come to Lakkidi , the gateway to Wayanad. Vythiri, which is five kilometers from Lakkidi, is considered as a major destination on the Kozhikode-Mysore route. It is located about 11km south of Kalpetta .
Located at about 2600ft above sea level, Vythiri offers a real picture of Wayanad. The rolling green hills crowned by mist, gorges and ravines, the beautiful valleys and streams of this area are more than an extension of the generosity of nature that the interiors of the district offers. The rural environment of Vythiri is enhanced by the presence not only of evergreen forests, but also by acres of expanding tea, coffee plantations and spices. The place was once the retreat of English settlers.
There are several destinations that attract near Vythiri and include Lake Pookot, waterfalls, etc. Kanthampara Another interesting place near Vythiri is the Chain Tree in Lakkidi.
