Aauwa

Aauwa is located 12 kilometers south of the headquarters of Marwar Junction Tehsil. Previously, Aauwa village was a part of Jodhpur State.

This place came into prominence during the first war of independence of 1857, when his Jagirdar Thakur Singh Kushal rebelled against the British. He struck a great blow for British prestige by repelling the forces commanded by Brigadier Lawrence. Thereafter, Home Colonel with a large army besieged the place and evacuated it.

This place has an ancient temple of Lord Mahadeo in its vicinity, it was believed to have been built in the 11th century. In 1857 a riot broke out in neighboring Abu and Erinpura. The British sent 30,000 troops to quell and capture Aauwa (in Pali District). The British destroyed the fortress and the palace. Even the temples and their idols were not saved. The statue of the Mahakali goddess led to Ajmer is still preserved in the Ajmer Museum.
