During the Mughal times, the Jaipur region was a major weapons production center for the Mughal and Rajput rulers, several of the weapons being displayed at the Fort Museum. It is one of the few medieval Indian military structures preserved almost intact, with palaces, a barn, a well-planned casting of canyons, several temples, a tall tower and giant mounted canyon-Ban Jai (Jaivan) which is the Great on wheels in the World.

Jaigarh Fort is also known as the fortress of victory. The screen includes a collection of canons, many of which are exquisitely decorated and have been used in the Mughal campaigns led by King Rajput, Raja Man Singh. Jaipur‘s three forts, Jaigarh is perhaps the most imposing. It does not have those delicate structures or palaces like Amber’s, but if you want a quick glimpse of a hardcore fortress, this is it.

Jaigarh means ‘Fort Victory’ and was built between the 15th and 18th century, and is located 15 km from Jaipur, amidst rock-strewn, thorny hedges covered hills, its imposing stone walls being visible from the city of Jaipur. A steep path leading up to the main gate, the Darwaza Dungar, from where the views are inspiring.
