Poovar beach, Kovalam – Kerala

Poovar is unspoiled and unspoilt, enveloped by the most serene backwaters, and the opening to the sea and a golden sandy beach dream. The historical importance of Poovar has its strong links with the legendary king of the former State of the Principality of Travancore, the great Marthanda Varma Maharaja. Just 12 km south of Kovalam , Poovar is a secluded but spectacular beach, located near the mouth of the Neyyar River . A commercial port in its early days, is nowadays a major tourist destination.
