Matho Monastery

Matho Monastery, or Gompa Matho is a Buddhist monastery located 26 kilometers southeast of Leh in Ladakh . The village of Matho lies at the mouth of a deep ravine running from the Zanskar range and across the Indus. It’s Tikse Monastery right across the street. The monastery belongs to the Saskya Order.
Lama Dorje Dugpa founded some five hundred years ago. Sanctuaries and also a sacred temple dedicated to the guardian deities can be seen there. A festival called “Matho Nagrang” takes place there every year on the 14th and 15th of the first month of Tibet. All monks perform sacred dances.
